About Us

Narkeldanga Sir Gurudas Institute was born in February 1901, when India was in the grip of subjugation. At that time, some young men of this locally laid the foundation stone of the organization. Many of them were freedom fighters. The institution is named after the great local man, said Gurudas Banerjee — the name of energy may not be very familiar to the present generation. Still, he was a familiar man of the Bengal Renaissance. He was a man of many talents; on the one hand, he was the Judge of the Calcutta High Court, and at the same time, he was the first Indian to be the vice-chancellor of Calcutta University. Road, station, and college situated in Kolkata in his name. This year marks the centenary of his birth.
